NEW BLOG MINUS ONE CITY

Hi. I would like to re-start this blog and change it only slightly by taking out the German part. Sabrina has joined us in this little town of ours so this blog will be centered around the food of the great Northwest from the perspective of amature eater Alicia and Gastronomy Master Sabrina. Join us as we give you some opinions to go with your own?

(if you want to read about Germany food and otherwise, visit my newly expatted friends The Castichells in their new hometown of somewhere in the middle of Germany, does it really matter?) http://thecastichells.blogspot.com/

My first post will be a review of Meat Cheese Bread located on 14th and Stark in SE Portland. It's one of many new sandwich-ey places that have been popping up around town filling the sad gaping hole of this once sandwich-less town. Love the name and the location since it's 10 blocks from my apartment.

Overall: MCB was (to use my favorite movie reviewer Mick LaSalle's rating system) a polite clap.

Since I'm a BLT fan, I had the beet and bacon sandwich which has excellent fatty bacon from Neuskies and yummy yellow roasted beets that brought out the sweetness of the bacon and aioli, which seems to be the sauce of choice at MCB, no complaints here.

Seth had the roasted Turkey with Havarti which was so so. Nothing too exciting but a decent sandwich none the less. I would have given the Bacon Lettuce and Beat a thumbs up if it weren't for the price. 9 bucks for a sandwich to me means heaping American portions of MEAT, almost but not quite too much bacon. For my cash, I got two slices of albeit delicious bacon, not nearly enough of it for a flat, wide sandwich. Let's just say there were several bacon-less bites at the end. Maybe a little more Meat in the Meat Cheese Bread because let's face it, that's the best part.
